Our Current Team

  • Royette T. Dubar, Ph.D.

    Professor Dubar is the Director of the S.P.A Lab and coordinates all research activities in the lab. She was born and raised on the island of Dominica and pursued studies at the University of St. Martin (St. Maarten) and Trent University (Canada), before obtaining her Ph.D. in Psychology, with a focus on Lifespan Development, from Brock University (Canada). She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Northwestern University (U.S.A). Professor Dubar is passionate about training undergraduate students in research within the fields of sleep health and psychosocial functioning. When she is not analyzing data, writing manuscripts, or preparing lectures, she is either cooking; catching up on Netflix shows; sharing adventures with her husband, two energic kiddos, and their cat; or...sleeping"

  • Paul Quach (BA '26, MA '27)

    Paul Quach (BA‘26, MA‘27) is a current graduate student at Wesleyan University from Salem, Oregon, pursuing a Master of Arts in Psychology, and has been a member of the SPA Lab since Summer 2024. As a First-Generation Low-Income Student of Color at Wesleyan, Quach aims to create pathways for his communities by inspiring intersectionality and interconnectedness across all his endeavors. He is particularly interested in research in the field of Emerging Adulthood, examining Psychosocial Adjustment, Intergenerational & Interpersonal Relationships, Family Dynamics, Belonging & Emotional Regulation, Student Leadership, and Sociodemographic Minorities. After graduating from Wesleyan, Quach aims to pursue a PhD in Psychology and continue doing research. 

    And like his catchphrase says – “WWn’tPQD: What Wouldn’t Paul Quach Do?”

  • Katie Sykes ('27)

    Katie Sykes (‘27) is a senior from Westchester, New York who is a current Psychology and Economics double major. She is interested in the influence of social factors on how people make decisions, especially in terms of financial decisions for young adults. Outside of the lab Katie works as a tutor for Long Lane Farm and leads the permaculture club on campus (WILDWes). She has also worked as a course assistant and a summer Research Assistant under Dr. Rogers at the Department of Population Health at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. She ultimately hopes to become a professor and continue doing research in academia.

  • Issy Simpson '27

    Isabella (Issy) is a senior ('27) from Shropshire, England, double majoring in Psychology and Education Studies. She is interested in parenting styles, and how they affect children’s development. She plans to pursue a PhD in developmental psychology, with a focus on parent-child relationships. Outside of the lab, Issy volunteers at a local daycare, loves to cook, rock climb, travel, and spend time with friends.

  • Sean Mejia (‘28)

    Sean Mejia (‘28) is a junior from Manhattan, New York, majoring in Psychology. He is interested in analyzing sociodemographic disparities across variables such as sleep health, self efficacy, perceived loneliness, and attachment style. Outside of the lab, he is his class liaison for LASO, co-president of the Caribbean Students Association and Wesquisqueya, and president of Eclectic. His goal is to pursue a PhD in psychology, and hopes to narrow down his interests within the field! 

  • Sam Chappell ('28)

    Sam Chappell (‘28) is a junior from Manchester, New Hampshire, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Data Analysis. She is interested in how parenting styles and other social interactions may influence sleep quality and duration. Outside the lab, Sam plays softball for Wesleyan, loves to cook and bake, and enjoys spending time with friends and family.

  • Lane Durkin ('27)

    Lane Durkin (‘27) is a senior from Darien, Connecticut double majoring in Psychology and Economics. She is interested in how sleep is related to physical performance (such as in sports) or perceived physical wellbeing, as well as university students’ approaches (or lack thereof) to achieve high quality sleep. She is also captain of the women’s tennis team at Wesleyan. Outside of school and tennis, she loves surfing, listening to music, and spending time with loved ones. She currently plans to pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy post-grad, and also has dreams of becoming a college tennis coach, a sports psychologist, or even a professor.
